School Orchard Project

The National Lottery have awarded us funding to help some local schools to set up orchards in their grounds. So we are working with six local schools.

Bringing children and parents together in a practical and productive way
Improving school grounds for children and wildlife
Using the grounds, orchard and apples in the curriculum
Introducing children and parents to new skills and interests
Creating more opportunities for making local healthy food and drink

We have offered fruit trees and planting equipment to each selected school. We are having a teachers course for these schools and others. They will also be offered a printed guide on setting up and using school orchards. Lastly they will also have support to help promote and celebrate all that is good about apples and orchards – for food, drink, wildlife and people, with a display of the results at our SCOG Apple Day in October 2019.
